R v Stone and Dobinson [1977]

Facts:
  • Ds took in one of Ds sister as a lodger who had severe disabilities who got worse during her stay. D had made some efforts to care for her but they were inadequate.
  • Ds were charged with manslaughter.

Held:
  • A duty of care was owed on the grounds that the victim was not only a lodger in the home of Ds but also had closer ties to each.
